Poll to the right

I have 2 days off before summer school starts, so what did I do yesterday? I spent 1 and 1/2 hours in a sherwin williams looking at paint and wallpaper. It was so fun! And per Jason's orders I did not buy anything. :)

I mostly looked at paint, but then got into the wallpaper books. There are some great patterns out there. Some are very modern and contemporary. I thought putting it on the wall might be a lot of work, so I was trying to think of ways to use the patterns without putting it on the wall.

I am a little nervous about decorating our new house and want to paint good colors and have it look grown up. I need to decorate cheaply. I don't want to spend a ton of money on things I can do myself....

So, if you have any good ideas or things to share, please do! I would love to have any advice you have to offer. What has worked for you? What are some good places to shop for deals or key pieces?

Colors we like:
- dark brown for our master bedroom
- blueish tealy for the guest bathroom
- we need to come up with one for the guest bedroom

The website would not let me post specific pages. I like the design by color collection specifically aqua modern. There is a wallpaper visualizer thing that is really fun to play around with.

Tomorrow I have to go back to the real world of work though. It was fun while it lasted....

  1. ummm, you really need to take stats this summer because your poll is not going to produce valid results. If you were in stats, you'd learn about stuff like that. Like, for example, my opinion was not given as an answer choice. I would have indicated my complete hate and disguist for wallpaper and that it should be used only for collecting trash once you're done decorating. But, alas, that was not an option. ;) hehe, can you tell I'm preparing for class tonight?

  2. I personally have mixed emotions about wallpaper. However, I think that you can never go wrong putting wallpaper in a frame to decorate a wall. In a frame you still get to enjoy the wallpaper, it is easier to take down if you get tired of it, and you will not need to buy as much. But you do have to buy a frame and mat - but to save on that you could look at second hand stores.

  4. For something a little more "bold" you can select one wall, say in your master bedroom, and put wallpaper on it and then pick a contrasting paint color to put on the rest of the walls. It works best with big print wallpaper - such as thick stripes or big floral designs or big patterned shapes. Another way to save money is to use fabric stretched over canvas instead of framing wallpaper. (Just like Portico has done in multiple rooms) Those are easy to change if it doesn't grow on you or you decide to re-do a room.
How fun! I can't wait to see how you decorate!
