Jesus wept. The shortest verse in the Bible-- brings me so much comfort.
Lazarus (the brother of Mary and Martha) had died. Both women were in distress over the news. Jesus hears about Lazarus' sickness and delays His coming to Lazarus for 2 days. Long enough for Lazarus to die.
Did Jesus know Lazarus had died when Martha came out to meet him on the road. Yes. Was Jesus talking about Lazarus being raised from the dead at the last day or in that day? Martha did not know what was coming.
When Jesus got to where Mary was, He was greatly moved by the sisters' distress and weeping and He wept. I can just picture Him sitting and crying with the sisters. He understood their sorrow and how much they would miss their brother. Jesus also knew that He was about to perform a miracle. But, that did not stop Him from weeping with the sisters.
Then miracles happened. Jesus went out to the tomb and called Lazarus out of the tomb. Lazarus was raised that day and will be raised again in the last day with the rest of us. But Lazarus had the privilege to be a part of a miracle. How amazing.
My day may be coming to be a part of a miracle. But at this point in this day, I need Jesus to weep with me. To understand what I feel and to love me in the midst of the trouble in my heart.
Thank you Jesus for weeping.
